Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to determine the effect of variations in the concentration of HCl on the silica functional group extracted from the calcined Kendari bay Clay. The methods used are calcination and extraction, the mud is taken from Kendari bay and washed using distilled water then filtered and then dried under the hot sun for 24 hours, after which it is mashed with a mortar and sieved with a size of 60 mesh. The sample was calcined at 900 0C for 1 hour. Then the leaching process was carried out using HCl with a concentration of 4 M, 6 M, 8 M and 10 M, then homogenized using a magnetic stirrer at a temperature of 100 0C for 5 hours, after that it was filtered using filter paper and deposited to pH 7. The FTIR analysis results showed that each variation in the concentration of HCl has Si-O-Si and Si-O functional groups, but the greatest absorption intensity of the silica functional groups is found in HCl solution with a concentration of 8 M at wave number 1050.55 cm-1 which indicates the presence of Si-O groups Si-O -Si.
