Abstract

ABSTRACT: This research is motivated by the potential for durian skin waste in the city of Kendari and its character is difficult to decompose so that it has the potential to become one of the biological wastes that can cause environmental pollution it is necessary to make furher efforts to treat organic waste and overcome energy problems in the communiti. This study aims to determine the effect of variations in the percentage of durian skin charcoal on the heating value and burning rate of briquettes. This research process was carried out by carbonating the durian skin at a temperature of 450 for 2 hours. Then proceed milling and sieving with a sieve size of 80 mesh. Variations in the percentage of durian skin charcoal used were 80%, 85%, 90%, and 95% and the percentage of adhesive materials was 20%, 15%, 10%, and 5% of the total weight of durian skin charcoal powder and adhesive. Furthermore, mixing durian skin charcoal powder with adhesive using tapioca adhesive. Printing and pressing of briquettes with a pressure of 100 kg / cm. Drying of briquettes is carried out under the sun for 3 days. Furthermore, testing the calorific value and combustion rate. From the results of the study it was concluded that the calorific value and burning rate increased along with the increase in the percentage of durian skin charcoal. The heighest calorific value meets the Indonesian National Standard, which is 5.411 cal/gr. For the highest briquette combustion rate value of 0,0055 gr/s
