Abstract

Abstrack: The conversion of durian skin into briquettes will increase the economic value of the material, and reduce environmental pollution. One of the important parts in determining the quality of briquettes as a fuel is the adhesive. This study aims to determine the effect of variations in adhesive on heating value and combustion rate of Durian Skin Briquettes. The briquettes were obtained in several steps, namely carbonization at a temperature of 450˚ for 2 hours. Then grinding and sieving the charcoal with a size of 80 Mesh. Mixing charcoal, adhesive and water, using a variety of types of adhesive, namely tapioca flour, rice flour, sago and cornstarch with a percentage of 90% durian skin charcoal and 10% adhesive. Printing and pressing of briquettes with a pressure of 100 kg/cm2. Drying under the sun for 3 days. The briquettes with tapioca flour adhesive obtained a calorific value of 5373 cal/g, briquettes on rice flour adhesive was 5302 cal/g, briquettes with sago adhesive obtained a calorific value of 5292 cal/g and the heating value of cornstarch adhesive briquettes was obtained 5207 cal/g. The calorific value of all adhesives meets the SNI, which is 5000 cal/g. The results of the combustion rate test showed that the rate of burning briquettes in the adhesive for tapioca flour was 0.0051 gr/s, rice flour was 0.0049 gr/s, sago was 0.0045 gr/s and cornstarch was 0.0041 gr/s.
