Abstract

Abstract: Misconception is a problem that disturbs students in learning science. It is important to know the misconceptions of students from an early age in order to immediately construct prevention efforts. The main objective of this research is to identify students' misconceptions on static and dynamic fluid material and their causative factors. The study was conducted on 81 students in grade XII at MAN 1 Kendari with quantitative descriptive methods. The diagnosis of student misconceptions uses a four-tier diagnostic test instrument, while the identification of the factors that cause misconceptions in students uses unstructured interview techniques. The results showed that 41% of students had misconceptions which included a moderate level of misconception where 20% of students had misconceptions in submaterial hydrostatic pressure, 36% of students had misconceptions in Archimedes' legal submission, 62% of students had misconceptions in capillary sub-material, 51% students of misconception in Pascal's submission of law, 26% of students of misconception of submission of continuity and of Bernoulli's principle. The factors causing the dominant misconceptions came from students, other factors came from the context, teachers, teaching methods and textbooks.
