Abstract

Changes that occur in coastal and marine areas are not just natural phenomena, but these conditions are very large influenced by human activities around them. This study aims to identify the causal factors of the spatial use of the coastal area of mangrove forests in Kendari Bay and to analyze the comparison of changes in vegetation area and density of mangrove forests due to the utilization of coastal areas in Kendari Bay in 1990.2003 and 2017. This type of research is descriptive-qualitative using interviews, geographic information systems and interpretation of satellite imagery, using Landsat 5 TM image, Landsat 7 TM image, Landsat 8 OLI image. The analytical method used in this study is the Supervised Classification and NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) to obtain the values of changes in the extent of change and the value of the vegetation of mangrove forests in the coastal area of Kendari Bay. The results of this study indicate the factors that cause the utilization of the mangrove forest coastal area in Kendari Bay, namely 1) the conversion of mangrove land into ponds 2) the conversion of mangrove land into roads and 3) the conversion of mangrove land into settlements. Then for the mangrove area values in a row from 1990, 2003 and 2017 are 220.03 ha, 141.12 ha and 103.32 ha. whereas for NDVI values from 1990.2003 and 2017 are 0.00-0.79, 0.00-0.54 and 0.00-0.73 respectively. Keywords: Mangrove, Supervised Classification, NDVI, Landsat Image
