Abstract

Ultisols are a type of soil in Indonesia which has a wide distribution, reaching 45,794,000 ha or around 25% of the total land area of Indonesia. Nonetheless, Ultisol has problems with soil chemical properties such as acid pH reactions, high Al content and low nutrient content and low to moderate organic matter. So this study aims to determine the independent effect of papaya leaf POC, chicken manure independent and to determine the effect of the combination and or interaction between papaya leaf POC and chicken manure on the chemical properties of Ultisol soil and the growth of cayenne pepper plants. This study used a factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) with two factors, namely papaya leaf liquid organic fertilizer P0 = 0 ml plant-1, P1 = 100 ml plant-1 plus 400 ml of water, P2 = 200 ml plant-1 plus 300 ml of water and chicken manure, namely: A0 = 0 grams of plant-1, A1 = 50 grams of plant-1 is equivalent to 5 tons ha-1, A2 = 100 grams of plant-1 is equivalent to 10 tons ha-1. The results showed that papaya leaf liquid organic fertilizer and chicken manure were able to increase the nutrient content of N, P, K and pH in Ultisols. The independent administration of POC papaya leaves had an effect on plant height but not on the number of leaves, independently of chicken manure also had an effect on plant height and number of leaves, but in interaction POC papaya leaves and chicken manure had no effect on plant height and number of leaves. Keywords: Cayenne pepper, chicken manure, liquid organic fertilizer, soil chemical properties, ultisols
