Abstract

Ultisol land in Indonesia covers an area of 38.4 million hectares. However, it has low organic matter constraints, acid soil reaction, low wet saturation and high Al. Therefore, the use of chicken manure can increase fertility in Ultisol soil. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of providing chicken manure on fertility and yield of tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum) on Ultisol soil. The study was carried out in experimental field II, Faculty of Agriculture and Soil Analysis at UPT Integrated Laboratory, University of Halu Oleo, from March to May 2022. This study used a randomized block design (RBD) consisting of 5 treatments, namely P0 = No chicken manure (control), P1 = Chicken manure 200 g polybag-1, P2 = Chicken manure 400 g polybag-1, P3 = Manure chicken 600 g polybag-1, P4 = Chicken manure 800 g polybag-1. Variables observed included soil chemical properties and tomato plant growth. The results showed that chicken manure was able to increase soil pH from 4.54 to 6.43, C-organic from 0.12% to 1.69%, P-total from 4.69 ppm to 7.17 ppm, K-available from 0.46 me 100g-1 to 0.68 me 100g-1 and CEC from 6.08 me 100g-1 to 25.23 me 100g-1 Manure 400 g polybag-1 had an effect on soil pH, organic C, available K, available P and CEC. As well as having a significant effect on plant height, number of branches, number of fruits, and fruit weight on tomato plants. Keywords: chicken manure; soil chemical properties; tomato plant; ultisols
