KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE, AND PERSONAL HYGIENE CORRELATED TO THE SCABIES INCIDENCE IN WORKING AREA OF COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE OF LEPO-LEPO IN KENDARI MUNICIPALITY

Abstract

Scabies is a parasitic infection of the skin caused by Sarcoptes scabiei. Chronic and severe scabies can cause dangerous complications. This study aimed to determine the correlation between knowledge, attitude and personal hygiene with scabies incidence in working area of Community health centre of Lepo-Lepo in Kendari Municipality. This study was an analytical survey study using cross-sectional design. The population in this study was all of infectious skin disease sufferers in working area of Community health centre of Lepo-Lepo in Kendari Municipality in the period of January-July 2016 as many as 106 cases with samples as many as 84 respondents. The sampling was done by using Simple random sampling technique that uses inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data analysis used chi-square test with confidence interval (CI) of 95% at significance level of p 0.05. The results showed that there was a very significant correlation between knowledge (pvalue = 0.000), attitude (pvalue = 0.001) and personal hygiene (pvalue = 0.000) with scabies incidence in working area of Community health centre of Lepo-Lepo in Kendari Municipality.
