Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a collection of metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia which is due a disorder in insulin secretion, insulin activity or both. Obesity is thought to affect the fasting blood glucose level in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. This study is to determine the correlation between body mass index (BMI) and fasting blood glucose in type 2 DM patients at RSU Bahteramas. The study’s design is an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional approach. This study was held at RSU Bahteramas, with the population being all DM patients with an age above 18 years old. A total of 70 samples were obtained from January 2017-June 2017 using consecutive sampling. Body Mass Index Data obtained from weight measurement using scales Nagako and And height using microtoise, while of blood glucose levels obtained Of Secondary Data on Medical Records. Data were analyzed using Chi Square test (p0,005).The results showed that a majority of type 2 DM patients at RSU Bahteramas are females (44 respondents/62,9%) amount, in the age range of 46-55 years old (30 respondents/42,9%) amount, BMI at Obesity (41 respondents/58,6%) amount and with abnormal fasting blood glucose (44 respondents/62,9%) amount. There is a significant relationship between body mass index and fasting blood glucose in patients at RSU Bahteramas (p=0,000 ). In conclusion, there is a significant relationship between body mass index and fasting blood glucose in type 2 DM patients.
