Abstract

Non-adherence to hypertension therapy can lead to chronic complications. Counseling and leaflets are forms of education that can be given to hypertensive patients to improve adherence and therapeutic outcomes. This study aims to determine the level of adherence using the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale-8 (MMAS-8) score and clinical outcomes of hypertension patients before and after giving counseling and leaflets at the Mekar Health Center, Kendari City. This research is a type of preexperimental research that was carried out prospectively with a sampling technique using the consecutive sampling method. The research sample consisted of 30 people with one group pretest-posttest group design. Patient adherence was measured using the MMAS-8 questionnaire, which was then analyzed using the Wilcoxon and Spearman correlation tests. Based on the study results, there were differences in the level of adherence to the medication before and after giving counseling and leaflets. At the beginning of the blood pressure measurement in hypertensive patients, the mean pretest TDS was 158.3 mmHg, decreased to 140 mmHg, and the pretest TDD was 95 mmHg, decreased to 84.6 mmHg after four weeks of intervention. The results of the analysis showed that there was an increase in the level of patient compliance based on the MMAS-8 score with significance (p0.001). The provision of counseling and leaflets effectively increases hypertension patients’ compliance at the Mekar Health Center, Kendari City
