Abstract

Anemia is a condition of the number and size of red blood cells or hemoglobin concentrations below the normal limit value. The consequently, it can interfere the capacity of blood to transport oxygen around the body. The highest prevalence of anemia is in the world's most populous country i.e. India were 78.75% with the highest cases in young women with less educated mothers. The highest incidence of anemia occurs in preschoolers and the lowest incidence rate in adult males (WHO, 2015). The purpose of this study was to know the correlation between breakfast with anemia incidence in female adolescent in SMA Negeri 2 Kendari in 2017. The type of study was observational analytic with Cross sectional approach. The numbers of subjects of this study were 78 respondents. Based on the result of the research, there were 29 cases of anemia (37.2%). Analysis result using chi square test obtained p value = 0.04 smaller than α = 0.05 so that null hypothesis rejected. Thus breakfast was correlated significantly with the incidence of anemia in female adolescents in SMA Negeri 2 Kendari in 2017.
