Abstract

This research is aimed to develop the method of making natural pesticide in the preparing of cocoa seed by using liquid smoke and charcoal from coconut shell pyrolysis at 600 °C. Liquid smoke of coconut shell and pyrolysis charcoal contain lignocellulosics material that has a function as an antimicrobial, antioxidant, and preservative effect. The stages of cocoa seed preparing in this study are cocoa seeds soaked with liquid smoke and charcoal for media store and some not covered with charcoal (treatment), also carried on the seeds are soaked in synthetic pure pesticides (control +), and seeds soaked with water (control -). Each seed is stored for 15 days. The results showed that cocoa seeds during the storage process were in good condition, it was shown that the seeds with the immersion of liquid smoke and charcoal did not undergo germination phase and were not overgrown with mushrooms as well as on the seeds soaked with amure (control +). In contrast to seeds soaked with water (control -) during the storage process overgrown with fungi. The observation was continued with the growth test which was conducted after the storage period for 15 days. The results show that cocoa seeds with treatmesssnt have the same role as cocoa seeds with (+ control) where the cocoa seeds can grow well, otherwise seeds with (control -) can not grow well. Observation of FTIR results on charcoal and liquid smoke from coconut shell and amure have the same compound content which is C=O group with aldehyde, ketone, carboxylic acid, ester in the range of 1690-1760 cm-1 and O-H group with the type of alcohol compound, phenol in the range 2000-3600 cm-1
