Abstract

One of the main problems in the world of livestock is the high cost of feed. About 50-70% of the farm's operational costs are used up for the provision of feed. One alternative animal feed that can be used is the Azolla plant. Azolla plant is known as a fern plant that generally floats on water and is one of the plants that has a high protein content. East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), especially Kupang regency, is known as one of the beef cattle producing areas, but over time the availability of feed has decreased. Therefore there needs to research on the potential of Azolla which lives in the Kupang district to be used as animal feed. Morphological identification, proximate analysis of nutrient content, and watercontent of Azolla were the methods used in this study. The result is that the type of Azolla found is the type of Azolla microphylla. The proximate test showed that the crude protein content was 16,81%, crude fat was 2,80%, the extract without nitrogen (BETN) was 24,03%, and the crude fiber was 24,03. The water nutrient analysis showed that Azolla microphylla lived water with an average pH of 7,85, with a dissolved oxygen content of 7,4 ppm, NO2-N 0,004 ppm, and PO4-P with a level of 0,135 ppm. Azolla microphylla that lives in Kupang district, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), has the potential to be used as animal feed. Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT)
