Abstract

Abstract: Ethnic conflict in Maluku is the result of various complex factors which include political and economic instability after the fall of the Soeharto regime, cultural and identity differences, and rivalry in controlling economic and political resources. The conflict involved Muslim and Christian groups, which was initially related to ethnic disputes but developed into a wider religious conflict. Factors triggering ethnic conflict in Maluku include economic, political aspects, cultural differences, ethnic politics, and racial and ethnic differences. Post-conflict impacts include inter-religious distrust, social segregation, and the emergence of religious fundamentalism movements. Conflict management involves various parties with a security and recovery approach, and involves peace negotiations between Muslim and Christian communities. The role of community, religious and media figures is key in facilitating reconciliation and building sustainable peace in Maluku.
