Abstract

Hydroponic farming has emerged as a rapidly developing innovation in urban agriculture, as it can increase crop yields while optimizing the use of limited land resources. This research aims to: (1) analyze the business profile of hydroponic farming at P4S Padang, (2) examine the level of income and profit generated, and (3) evaluate the business feasibility of hydroponic farming using financial indicators. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach to analyze the business profile, while income and profit were assessed through cost–revenue analysis. Business feasibility was evaluated using the Revenue–Cost (R/C) ratio, Benefit–Cost (B/C) ratio, and Break-Even Point (BEP) analysis. The results show that the six cultivated leafy vegetable commodities produce an average output of 135.83 kg per planting season with a total revenue of IDR 4,505,138.89. With an average total cost of IDR 2,424,136.75, the business generates a profit of IDR 2,081,002.13, an R/C ratio of 1.86, and a B/C ratio of 0.86, indicating financial feasibility. BEP analysis reveals a break-even production of 45.98 kg, a break-even price of IDR 17,846.41 per kg, and a break-even revenue of IDR 1,524,962.76, all of which are significantly lower than actual production, price, and revenue levels. These findings indicate that hydroponic farming at P4S Padang has a sufficient margin of safety relative to its break-even point and strong potential for sustainable development. This study contributes to the urban agribusiness literature by providing empirical evidence on the financial feasibility of hydroponic farming at a community-based training center, thereby strengthening the role of hydroponics as a viable model for urban agricultural development.
