This study was motivated by the phenomenon of government physical-material assistance that has not been optimal in improving the welfare of coffee farmers in Jenawi District, Karanganyar Regency, due to the neglect of non-physical foundations in the empowerment model. The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of social capital and personal capacity, both partially and simultaneously, on the level of empowerment of coffee farmers on the slopes of Mount Lawu, especially in Jenawi District. The research method used an explanatory quantitative approach with a survey technique on 75 respondents selected by proportional random sampling. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with z-score transformation to equalize the measurement scale. The partial results showed that social capital, age, land ownership, agricultural income, and farming experience had significant effects on farmer empowerment, while education level and family dependents had no significant effects. Social capital and land ownership had positive effects, whereas age and agricultural income had negative effects on farmer empowerment. Land ownership was found to be the most dominant determinant of farmer empowerment. Simultaneously, all independent variables had significant effects, with R² = 0.412 and adjusted R² = 0.351. Thus, the model explained 41.2% of the variation in farmer empowerment, while 58.8% of the variation remained unexplained by the model and may be associated with other factors or random variation. The implications of this study confirm that empowering farmers in marginal areas is not enough through material assistance alone but requires strengthening relational assets and structural reforms in the marketing value chain to overcome economic and social barriers in the field.
