Abstract
Pine resin is a potential local natural resource that plays a strategic role as the main source of livelihood for the people of Sasakan Village in meeting their daily needs. Pine resin is utilized through conventional tapping techniques by wounding or cracking pine tree trunks to stimulate resin release. Given its economic significance, supply chain mapping is an important instrument for identifying product distribution and transformation flows from upstream to downstream. This study aims to identify in depth the business actors involved in the pine resin supply chain, their activities, and the relationships and interaction patterns among actors in the chain, from raw material procurement to the processing and marketing stages. The study employed a qualitative descriptive method, with a census technique applied to pine resin tapping farmers. The study involved 35 active pine resin tapping farmers in Sasakan Village as census respondents, along with key informants from intermediary partners and the processing industry, PT Kencana Hijau Bina Lestari (KHBL), located in Polewali Mandar Regency. The results show that the pine resin supply chain in Sasakan Village involves three main actors: tappers as upstream producers, intermediary partners, and PT KHBL as the processing industry, with consumers representing the downstream market destination. The processing activities at PT KHBL transform pine resin purchased from partners at IDR 12,000/kg, while partners purchase resin from tapper farmers at IDR 10,000/kg, into processed products in the form of gondorukem and turpentine, with market prices ranging from IDR 25,000 to IDR 75,000 per kg or more. These products are then distributed through an extensive market network, including domestic markets such as Pasuruan, Bekasi, and Bogor, as well as international markets in India, China, Japan, and Korea. Effective coordination among business actors in this supply chain is a determining factor in the economic sustainability of the local community and the efficiency of the pine resin processing industry in the region.
