Abstract

This study evaluated the financial feasibility of an edible bird's nest business in Perintis Village, Rimbo Bujang District, Tebo Regency, Jambi Province, Indonesia, through a case study of a commercial swiftlet farming enterprise. The study was conducted from March 10 to May 25, 2022, using a survey method. The researchers collected primary data through direct observation and in-depth interviews with the business owner, and obtained secondary data from relevant institutions and published sources. The study site was purposively selected because it is the village's first commercial edible bird's nest business, has operated continuously for 12 years, has the largest production facility in the area, and has consistently produced marketable edible bird's nests. Financial feasibility was assessed using investment appraisal indicators, including Net Present Value (NPV), Net Benefit–Cost Ratio (Net B/C Ratio), and Internal Rate of Return (IRR), with a discount rate of 6%. The results showed an NPV of IDR 1,453,088,191.40, a Net B/C Ratio of 8.15, and an IRR of 82%. These findings indicate that the investment satisfies all financial feasibility criteria, as the NPV is positive, the Net B/C Ratio exceeds one, and the IRR is substantially higher than the prevailing discount rate. Therefore, the edible bird's nest business is financially feasible and has strong potential for sustainable business development and future investment.
