Abstract
ABSTRACT The low utilization of Long-Term Contraceptive Methods (LTCM) remains a challenge in the national family planning program, primarily due to limited knowledge among reproductive-age couples regarding the types, effectiveness, and safety of these methods. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge of reproductive-age couples about LTCM through structured health education at Makassau Public Health Center, Makassar City. A total of 49 participants attended the program, which was conducted using interactive lectures and audiovisual media, accompanied by pre-test and post-test assessments through multiple-choice questionnaires. Data were analyzed using paired t-test with a significance level of p<0.05. The results showed a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge after the health education (p<0.001), with the mean pre-test score of 55.6 ± 13.4 increasing to 85.3 ± 9.2 in the post-test, and all participants demonstrated better understanding of LTCM types, effectiveness, and safety. Therefore, evidence-based and interactive health education proved effective in improving knowledge about LTCM, and such educational activities should be regularly implemented as part of health promotion efforts to achieve the targets of the national family planning program.
