Abstract

Batik is an art form that employs traditional techniques originating from Indonesia to create textile designs. Each region in Indonesia boasts unique batik patterns, with Yogyakarta being particularly renowned for its distinctive motifs, including parang, kawung, and ceplok. While batik recognition technology exists, there are still limited systems capable of accurately classifying Yogyakarta’s batik motifs. This study aims to develop a texture recognition system by applying the Local Binary Pattern (LBP) feature extraction method combined with Neural Network (NN) classification. The dataset consists of 50 images each for the parang and kawung motifs, and 48 images for the ceplok motif, with an 80:20 ratio for training and testing data. The NN model achieved 78% accuracy, 79% precision, and an F1-score of 77%. This research underscores the potential of image processing technology in supporting the preservation of Yogyakarta batik and suggests that model accuracy could be enhanced through the use of a broader dataset and alternative classification algorithms.
