Abstract

This study aims to determine the variation concentration of chitosan on tensile strength at break and Modulus Young on chitosan in the membrane. Chitosan obtained through three stages, namely the deproteination process carried out with NaOH 3.5% ratio 1:10 (b/v) was reacted at a temperature of 75-800C for 60 minutes, followed by a demineralization process with 2 M HCl, ratio 1:10 (b/v) reacted at a temperature of 75-800C for 120 minutes, and deacetylated with NaOH 20% ratio 1:20 (v/b) reacted at a temperature of 90-1000C for 60 minutes. Test the mechanical properties on Chitosan in the membrane used by the shimadzu tensile testing machine with a tensile speed of 10 mm/min. The results show that the concentration of chitosan in the membrane with a percentage of 1%, 1.5%, 2%, and 2.5% states that the ratio of 1% has the high tensile strength at breaking of 10,22 MPa and Modulus Young very high in the percentage of 2% of 65 MPa
