Abstract

The quality of air in the workplace plays a role in terms of occupational health, especially for the lung. Lung as a means of ventilation for the body can experience a decrease on its function due to interference of the process of physiologic mechanisms, which can be caused by exposure to dust. PT X sugar mill station was a workplace which can generate dust during its process. The study aimed to determine the relationship between the work periods and nutritional status with the impaired lung function of the Workers in PT X sugar mill station. This was an analytical survey study with cross sectional data analysis. Samples were workers who work in PT X Sugar Mill Station. Samples were 40 people who were taken using purposive sampling technique, with the inclusion criteria namely male; age ≥ 21 years old; work period of at least 2 years; not in the habit of smoking and were willing to be sampled. Statistical analysis showed there was relationship between work periods with impaired lung function (p = 0,03), and there was no relationship between nutritional status with impaired lung function (p = 0,163). Conclusion: work periods related to the impaired lung function, but variables of nutritional status did not have relation with the impaired lung function.
