Abstract

Abstract Each region on Timor Island has a distinctive motif in its weaving that reflects the diversity of local culture, this research explores the diversity of woven fabric motifs on Timor Island, where each region has a characteristic motif that reflects the richness of local culture. The motifs and weaving process are a reflection of the type and origin of each woven fabric on the island. There are challenges in distinguishing Timor's highly varied woven fabrics, especially due to the similarity of motifs that can appear in different regions. Recognising this complexity, this research aims to overcome this difficulty by proposing the use of a hybrid approach that combines the advantages of Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) feature extraction in identifying the motif pattern or texture of woven fabrics with the expertise of Support Vector Machine (SVM) in classification. Thus, SVM can help reduce the risk of overfitting that may occur in CNN models, while improving classification accuracy on woven fabric datasets. Experimental results show that this hybrid approach surpasses the performance of the CNN classification algorithm independently. The SVM multi-class One Vs One (OVO) method with RBF kernel in the hybrid model achieves the best performance with 98.95% accuracy, 99.03% precision, 98.95% recall, and 98.99% F1-Score. In addition, the computation time is more efficient, showing the superiority of this approach in handling multi-class classification problems on ci datasets.
