Abstract

Abstract High frequency of procrastination behaviors among students makes procrastination behavior important to be explored further. This research aims to identify the relationship between academic self-concept and procrastination in junior high school students. The design of this research is ex post facto. The data were collected using the General Procrastination Scale (GPS) adapted from Lay (1986) and the Academic Self Concept for Adolescents (ASCA) scale adapted from Ordaz & Tomasini (2013). The sampling technique uses culster random sampling error rate of 5% with a total sample of 221 students from a population of 599 students. Hierarchical regression analysis results showed a significant negative relationship between academic self-concept and procrastination (R = 0.094, F (4.213) = 63.394, p <0.001). Based on these results, the guidance and counseling teacher is expected to develop students' academic self-concepts in the hope of reducing the tendency of students to procrastinate
