Abstract

Balinese traditional medicine, known as Usadha, represents a culturally rooted healing system with growing relevance for healthcare and wellness tourism. Healthcare providers in Bali face the challenge of aligning these practices with modern clinical standards while meeting global demand for authentic therapies. This study examined healthcare professionals’ knowledge, perceptions, and practices related to Usadha, as well as opportunities and barriers for integration. Using a mixed‑methods approach, 15 licensed providers completed a detailed survey combining quantitative and qualitative items. Results showed moderate knowledge of Usadha concepts and strong familiarity with herbal treatments, though nearly half lacked awareness of standardized dosages. Most participants acknowledged herb–drug interaction risks and expressed strong interest in training and scientific validation. Thematic analysis highlighted barriers such as limited facilities and unclear legal frameworks, alongside calls for an integration blueprint with official protocols and education. Usadha’s holistic approach to physical, mental, and spiritual health was recognized as a strength, with potential to enhance Bali’s wellness tourism if managed professionally. Overall, findings emphasize the need for stronger evidence, standardized protocols, and competency‑based training to ensure safe implementation and reinforce Bali’s global position in wellness tourism.
