Abstract

This study aims to determine the type and diversity of ground-surface arthropods in chili (Capsicum annuum L.) with several barrier plants. This research started from October 2021 to May 2022. This research was carried out in Matawolasi Village, Wolasi District, Konawe Selatan Regency and the Plant Protection Laboratory of the Entomology Unit, Faculty of Agriculture, Halu Oleo University. This study used chili pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) as the main crop and lemon grass, basil, kenikir and leeks as barrier plants. The types of insects found on large chili plants with several barrier plants were obtained using the pitfal trap method as an insect trap where each treatment with barrier plants contained 24 pitfal traps. The variables observed in this study were the type and diversity of ground-level arthropods, where the diversity included diversity index, species abundance index, and dominance index. The results of the study found as many as 15 types of Arthropods on chili peppers (Capsicum annuum L.) in all treatments including Dissosteira Carolina, Gryllius bimaculatus, Palomena prasina, Camponotus pennsylvanicus, Tapinoma sessile, Atractomorpha crenulate, Coccinella transversalis, Solenopsis sp, Minomorium pharaonis, Isoptera, Scolopendra gigantea, Forficula Auricularia, Spodoptera, Tachinid Sp, and Trigoniulus corallinus. The diversity index of ground-level arthropods in large chili plants for all treatments showed a medium diversity category where the diversity index of the highest value was in the treatment with kenikir barriers, namely 2.024, controls, namely 1.986, with lemongrass barriers, 1.985, basil barriers, 1.809 and with insecticides, 1.536. The species abundance index of large chili plants showed a low species richness category in all treatments where the species richness index of the lemongrass barrier was 2.152, the kenikir barrier was 2.036, the basil barrier was 2.061, the leek barrier was 2.090, the control was 1.913 and the species richness was 1.743 with insecticides. Arthropod domination index on large chili plants in all treatments showed moderate dominance category for all treatments where the highest domination index was obtained in the treatment with insecticides of 0.326, with leek barrier 0.205, with basil barrier, 0.200, control 0.188, with lemongrass barrier 0.168 and with other treatments kenikir barrier of 0.166. Keywords: species diversity, species richness, species dominance index
