Abstract

Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengungkapkan profil kemampuan representasi matematis siswa SMPN 1 Kendari ditinjau dari gaya kognitif impulsif dan untuk mengungkapkan profil kemampuan representasi matematis siswa SMPN 1 Kendari ditinjau dari gaya kognitif reflektif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (a) Siswa yang bergaya kognitif impulsif belum mampu membuat representasi simbolik yakni belum mampu menyelesaikan masalah dengan membuat model ekspresi matematis, belum mampu membuat representasi gambar yakni belum mampu membuat gambar atau grafik untuk menyelesaikan masalah yang diberikan, dan belum mampu membuat representasi verbal yakni belum mampu menyelesaikan masalah dengan menggunakan kata-kata atau teks tertulis; (b) Siswa yang bergaya kognitif reflektif mampu membuat representasi verbal yakni mampu menyelesaikan masalah dengan menggunakan kata-kata atau teks tertulis, belum mampu membuat representasi gambar yakni belum mampu membuat gambar atau grafik untuk menyelesaikan masalah yang diberikan, dan tidak mampu membuat reprsentasi simbolik yakni tidak mampu menyelesaikan masalah dengan membuat model ekspresi matematis.Kata kunci: Kemampuan Representasi Matematis, Gaya Kognitif Abstract: Objective of the study was to disclose students’ mathematical representation ability profile viewed from impulsive cognitive style and to disclose students’ mathematical representation ability profile in terms of reflective cognitive style. The results showed that: (a) Students with impulsive cognitive style are unable to create symbolic representations, such as making mathematical expression models, are unable of making image representations, such as drawing pictures or graphics to solve problems, and are unable of making verbal representation such as using written words or texts; (b) Students with cognitive reflective style are able to make verbal representations such as using written words or texts, are able of making image representations, such as making pictures or graphics, and are unable to make symbolic representations, such as solving problem by making a mathematical expression model.
