Abstract
The role of antioxidants to counteract free radicals overall is still unclear. The aime of this study is to examine the effect of vitamin E on sperm quality white rats (Rattus norvegicus) exposed to lead. The sample is using 20 male rats were divided into 4 groups: group I as a control, group II treatment with lead 0.35 g/rats, group III were given vitamin E 1.44 mg/rats and a lead of 0.35 g/rats, IV were given vitamin E 2, 16 mg/rats and a lead of 0.35 g/rats for 14 days. On the 15th day, doing surgery for taking a data on the amount, motility, viability, and morphology of spermatozoa. The data on the number, motility, and sperm viability were analyzed by one-way ANOVA, followed by LSD test, while for sperm motility were analyzed descriptively. The result of one-way ANOVA showed that giving antioxidant vitamin E has significant effect on the number, abnormality, and viability, (p <0.05) mice who exposed to lead. The LSD test showed significant differences of the amount sperms except in groups II and III, on sperm abnormality showed a significant difference except in groups III and IV. On sperm viability showed significant differences except in groups III and IV. From the research it can be concluded that vitamin E affects sperm quality maintains rat were exposed to lead.
